You can pop the Mini 2 off of the mounting arm at the ball-joint coupling (on the camera), but it doesn’t part ways as easily as the magnetic alternative and is likely to break from stress sooner. I actually stuck it to the mounting disk from the recently reviewed Dash Cam 57. Instead, it uses a semi-permanent adhesive disk of the same size. I was a little disappointed that the Mini 2 doesn’t use the same magnetic disk and mount that Garmin’s other dash cams employ. Installing any dash cam involves largely the same steps, though with different mounts and positioning. Garmin’s Dash Cam Mini 2 from the front, showing its wide 140-degree-FOV lens. Other notable features include temporary cloud storage (up to 30 days) through Garmin’s Vault portal, Live View with the aforementioned Drive app, and Parking Guard. Voice control allows you to save a video, take a picture, and turn audio recording on and off. Indeed, while testing (and before reading the specs) I was under the impression that there was a battery. However, the supercapacitor is hefty enough to keep the Mini 2 running for a good two to three seconds after you pull the plug. The Dash Cam Mini 2 opts for a supercapacitor, likely because there isn’t enough room for the lithium-ion battery found in Garmin’s larger dash cams. But here it’s a big deal: it’s a woman and it’s not so flattering, because she’s a mum. Trine Dyrholm: Yes, usually they're about male rock stars, and it’s rock and roll and they’re addicted, and it doesn’t really matter - if you know what I mean. These aspects make Nico, 1988 different from a lot of other rock biopics. Maybe because his father never recognised him, I think she struggled a lot with these things. At least the story is that she got clean in the end and she got custody back and started to see him more regularly, and wrote “My Only Child” and “Ari's Song”. She lost custody when he was three years old and some people say that’s when she got really addicted to heroin. Trine Dyrholm: Yes, I think the whole issue about being a mum haunted her a lot. I think she really wanted to be respected for the music and as a woman” – Trine DyrholmĪnd then there was the stuff with her estranged son, Ari. “She didn’t fit into that beauty icon thing. She stopped taking baths towards the end. ![]() She talks a lot about being beautiful and then not. I think she really wanted to be respected for the music and as a woman. She didn’t fit into that beauty icon thing. For me it was very inspiring because it told me that she didn’t fit in. Trine Dyrholm: I saw an interview where she was asked, ‘Do you regret anything?’ and she said, ‘No, I don’t regret anything other than I was born a woman and not a man’. Was there anything in the interviews you listened to that really stood out? You know, being a child in a destroyed Berlin. I think she struggled with being a German after the war. Trine Dyrholm: I think she struggled with a lot of things. She had many admirers up until the end but she struggled with addiction. I could’ve been the journalist in the film who says, ‘Can you tell me about Andy Warhol and that period?’, because that's all I knew. Of course I knew of her, but I didn’t know much about her. I only knew her connected to The Velvet Underground and also as a model, this icon. Trine Dyrholm: I didn't know that much about her, actually. I think it helped me a little bit that I had done these theatrical things, because in the studio I just tried to search for some sounds. That was another genre, but I have also done some rock things, and I’ve done some theatre where I had to explore my voice in different ways, like singing or screaming. Trine Dyrholm: Yes, I started out in the Eurovision Song Contest when I was 14. I then just started to work in the studio with the songs, because that was the key to embodying her. Trine Dyrholm: I looked up concerts from the last days of Nico – that was very inspiring – and I also saw some interviews and a documentary. So that was kind of what we did, didn’t stick too much to reality. So Susanna immediately said to me, ‘You don't look like Nico, we're doing our version’. She has this deep voice, and I had to sing the songs and everything. It’s a very complex character, very complicated, and in the beginning I was afraid to imitate her. How did you and Susanna Nicchiaralli come up with this version of Nico? The result is a powerful portrait of a woman taking control of her life just as it is about to end. “She created a unique style combining personal research with provoking experimental solutions and irony, always refusing to worry about the commerciality of her production.”ĭyrholm admits that she had previously only known Nico from her time with The Velvet Underground, but came to understand her though listening to interviews and watching hours of footage of her in concert. While not commercially successful, the music Nico made “was by far one of the most interesting, uncompromising productions of the period”, claims Nicchiarelli. Warhol once said that Nico “became a fat junkie and disappeared”, but this is as untrue as it is insulting. The film places Nico at a point when she is performing small gigs around Europe in the 80s, attempting to shake off her past and come out from the shadow of the men had always been associated with, while also trying to reconnect with Ari, the suicidal son she gave up as a child. The Nico being portrayed in the film is no longer the glamorous, statuesque beauty who performed with The Velvet Underground, but a junkie still fighting to make her voice heard as an artist in her own right during the last three years of her life.ĭyrholm captures the “priestess of darkness” perfectly – the German-accented, deep-toned vocals don’t drop a note, and it’s a complex performance that reveals vulnerability, sadness and regret. “Vanity kills art,” says the Danish actress Trine Dyrholm, who plays former Warhol muse Christa Päffgen, aka Nico, in Italian writer-director Susanna Nicchiarelli’s gritty and unconventional low-budget pop biopic, Nico, 1988. ![]() Want to use something other than cheddar? Taxpayers with closely held businesses will likely explore options like donations to charity or transfers to children during life to avoid triggering some of the gains if the capital gains tax rate increases as proposed. “The loss of that person who held everything together never fails to have a substantial impact in terms of continuity for the business,” he said.Īllowing the increased tax to be paid over multiple years might blunt the immediate impact but could still present a major challenge, because a closely held business may not return to the same level of profitability after the death of the principal owner, Nichols added. ![]() The death of the owner of a closely held business is typically a difficult time of transition for the business, and adding to the tax burden at that juncture could compound the problems it already faces, Nichols said. “If that’s your nest egg, it’s really huge,” Nichols said. But the difference between a 20% rate for a taxpayer who materially participates in their business and a potential 43.4% rate is significant. “The decision whether or not to sell a business has so many implications, you can’t let tax completely drive the bus,” Nichols said. The point of a sale for owners is often to cash out completely and not have to worry about keeping the business going. Spreading out the gain from the sale of a business over multiple years under the installment sale rules to avoid exceeding the threshold in any one year might be an option for some closely held business owners, but it might not be ideal. For example, for some of those businesses, the only point at which the owner-operator would reach the proposed $1 million threshold would be when they sell the business they’ve spent years building. Nichols of Meissner Tierney Fisher & Nichols SC said gain realization could be draconian for closely held businesses. Closely Held Businessesīusiness owners who may not typically end up above the income threshold each year could face an unpalatably large tax bill when they decide to sell their business, or upon death. Hadjilogiou noted that this is consistent with other deferral regimes such as the installment sale rules and even the rules for 401(k) plans, which apply the rate in effect in the year of the gain recognition. Section 1400Z-2 doesn’t specify what rate applies, but Treasury clarified in regulations that the rate is the one in effect in the year the gain is recognized. “I think investors in the short term are going to look at that potential rate hike and say no to investing in a QOF because of that,” he added.Ĭongress and the Biden administration could modify the Opportunity Zone rules to allow the applicable tax rate to be the one that applied in the year the capital gain was realized, rather than the one that applies when the gain is recognized on December 31, 2026. ![]() Hadjilogiou said qualified opportunity fund investments will still be valuable even if the rate increase becomes law, but that the deferral piece will become a cost. ![]() (Photo by Anna Moneymaker/Getty Images) Getty Images will send 20 million doses of Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines abroad on top of the 60 million AstraZeneca doses already planned for export. response and vaccination program in the East Room of the White House on in Washington, DC.
